The University of Kisubi (UniK) is a private Chartered University founded by the Registered Trustees of the Uganda Brothers of Christian Instruction. It is committed to being a hallmark of quality education in East Africa. Our campus provides a conducive environment for learning, located just 24km from Kampala along the Entebbe Highway. The University acknowledges the intrinsic connection between individuals and the environments that shape their lives. Guided by this understanding, it aligns itself with national and global efforts to influence social systems, policies, and services that prevent and respond to human suffering, promote individual and collective well-being, and advance social and economic justice. In pursuit of this mission, the University, through its Child Safeguarding and Protection Programme, has launched a Child Protection Practice-Oriented Training aimed at building professional competence in safeguarding and promoting the rights and welfare of children. This initiative is grounded in the conviction that every child possesses an inherent right to safety, dignity, and holistic development, as articulated in key legal and policy frameworks, namely:
- The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989)
- The African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (1990)
- The Constitution of Uganda (1995) Amended
- The Children (Amendment) Act, 2016
Why this training is important for you
Despite strong legal frameworks, the 2018 Uganda Violence Against Children Survey revealed that over 60% of Ugandan children experience physical, sexual, or emotional violence before the age of 18. At UniK, we recognize that professionals including teachers, religious leaders, social workers, counsellors, duty bearers, parents, children themselves, religious leaders and local councils often face a gap in specialized skills and knowledge to address child abuse at deeper levels. Our Child Protection Practice-Oriented Training bridges this gap, equipping you to create safe, nurturing environments in homes, schools, and communities.
